One two-month cruise through the Land Down Under is being halted following the fatal incident of an senior female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission located her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that travelers and personnel on the ship were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from entering the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its return.
