Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
